HOLDFAST QUAYS MARINA ASSOCIATION
The Holdfast Quays Marina comprises 144 berths and is located on the river side of the Patawalonga Basin between King Street Bridge and Cygnet Court. Berths range in size from 8.5-metre double berths to 14-metre single berths. Berth owners are mebers of the Holdfast Quays Marina Association Inc. (HQMA) and the Association is managed by a committee. The berths are held on a 50-year leasehold tenure.
Access to Holdfast Quays Marina from the Holdfast Bay side is via a fully automated lock facility. The lock is remotely operated by the Boat captains. The lock is constructed of reinforced concrete and is 25 metres long by six metres wide. Depending on vessel length, it can accommodate up to three vessels or one 20-metre long vessel.
Glenelg is renowned for it’s beaches and is one of the most developed beachside communities in South Australia, just a 30 minutes tram ride from Adelaide city centre. The foreshore has vibrant hotels, many outstanding restaurants and tourist attractions.
There are two other Marinas in the area. One in the Patawalonga Basin, Marina East and one on the seaside of the lock, Holdfast Shores Marina. Each Marina is separately managed.
The Holdfast Shores Marina is a 59 Berth freehold Marina on the seaward side of the Glenelg Weir and lock and is surrounded by the Holdfast Shores restaurants. There is a walk-way accessed from the basement car parking areas.
Marina East is a 17 berth Marina. Berths were originally developed as and attached to the units in Marina East apartments.
The Patawalonga Lake has a minimum water depth of 3 metres and the entry channel on the seaside is dredged to maintain a target depth of 3 metres.
All Marina berths are powered and have water points connected. The marina pontoons were newly constructed by Bellingham Marine in June 2000 and as such there is minimal maintenance required thus keeping on-going costs to a minimum.
Diesel and unleaded fuel is available in the public area of the Holdfast Shores Marina. Overnight stays are available through the management of each Marina.
A slipway operates separately in the Patawalonga basin area.
Holdfast Quays Marina Association has a secure car park fitted with electronic proximity card access and available for use by members and tenants. Ablution facilities for the marina patrons is located in the dive shop building. This Marina has a monitored colour closed circuit television security system providing the latest in marine security. Boats can also be individually monitored with motion sensors similar to household alarms if required and at the cost of the boat owner.
